Ferrybridge has been a significant destination in UK power generation for over a century. The land was bought in 1917 and plans were submitted to create a power station in March 1918. It took until 1921 for permission to be granted and work on Ferrybridge A finally began in 1926. The facility became operational in 1927 and generated power until it was decommissioned in 1976.

This was the first of several different power stations on the site. Ferrybridge B was commissioned in 1957 but was decommissioned in 1992 and subsequently demolished. Work began on the third facility, C, in 1962. It became operation in 1966 and construction was finished in 1968. Electricity generation ended in March 2016.

The power plant that remains operational (FM1) came online in 2015 following commission in 2012. It is a multifuel, low carbon facility that burns biomass, waste fuel, and waste timber, utilising resources from domestic, commercial, and industrial activities. Plans for FM2 were released in 2015 and construction on site began in 2016. The plant is expected to become operational in 2019.

Power generation is a very demanding industry where safety is absolutely crucial. Every single service that takes place on the site needs to be delivered with the utmost care due to the risks involved.

The Denon Construction team was pleased to be invited to participate in a project at Ferrybridge power plant. As one of the most accomplished Slimshor temporary installers, we had the skills and experience to satisfy the client’s requirements. Our task was to install temporary support in a confined space to stabilise a lime slurry tank that was in close proximity to where a Mammoet gantry crane was to be installed.

We designed the Slimshor system to provide the required stability for the challenging setting. The temporary propping was created using several sets of flying shores, providing lateral support for the walls of the tank.

As one of the very best teams of Slimshor temporary installers, we are confident we can provide the perfect solution for any project. We will address the risks, overcome challenges, and ensure we achieve the highest standards.
